Consultants Simon Bourne has been clinical lead for COPD at SUHT for over 4 years. He has a particular interest in working with Primary Care and has delivered several projects for the PCT, Health Foundation and the Department of Health. He led the COPD lung improvement and acute admission programs for South Central SHA. His thesis for his MD was on exacerbations of COPD; and with Tom Wilkinson heads a large research and innovation program in COPD within the Biomedical Research Unit. He is nationally recognised for patient pathway designs and appointed to the British Thoracic Society national guidelines committee in 2011. Tom Wilkinson is a Senior Lecturer in The Faculty of Medicine and Honorary Consultant in Respiratory Medicine in SUHT. In 2010 he was the first consultant to be appointed nationally to a role focusing on the holistic approach to respiratory disease as lead on Nutrition, Activity and Lifestyle. He is co-director of COPD services and has over ten years experience in clinical research and service development in COPD. He has lead local initiatives on self-management for COPD patients and has experience of working closely with primary care. His research has been internationally recognised and in 2011 was appointed to the British Thoracic Society national guidelines committee. Administration The Southampton COPD Group administation is perfomed by Karen Egan Physiotherapists Clare Cobbett leads the trusts innovative Acute Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Clinical Research Fellows We have 3 very experienced respiratory registrars who work to deliver both the research and clinical agenda. These are Anna Barton, Sahintha De Silva and Victoria Kim. SHINE Community Team Nurse Mal North is an extremely experienced respiratory nurse who delivers the Health Foundation SHINE project to primary care. He works within the community to facilitate COPD education and training. Mal is currently undertaking a screening programme and databse review in primary care surgeries in Southampton.
